In a shocking development, Mr. Puja Khedkar, a former probationary IAS officer, found herself entangled in a criminal case involving a road rage incident that escalated into a kidnapping. The incident, which occurred last week on September 13, has raised serious concerns regarding the conduct of public figures and their families. The case involves the abduction of a truck driver, Prahlad Kumar Chouhan, after a minor accident on Mulund-Airoli Road in Navi Mumbai.

The Road Rage Incident

According to police reports, the confrontation started when a concrete mixer truck brushed against a Land Cruiser, which was occupied by two individuals, including Mr. Khedkar’s father, Mr. Dilip Khedkar. The truck driver, Prahlad Kumar, had a brief argument with the occupants of the luxury car, who then demanded compensation for the damages. The situation quickly escalated when Mr. Dilip Khedkar and his driver, Mr. Praful Salunkhe, allegedly abducted Kumar and took him to Khedkar’s private residence in Pune.

The police, following a complaint by the truck’s owner, launched an investigation. With the help of technical analysis, they tracked the SUV to Pune, where the driver was rescued after being confined at the Khedkar bungalow.

The Role of Puja Khedkar’s Family

The investigation has revealed that Mr. Dilip Khedkar, along with his bodyguard Mr. Salunkhe, forcibly detained Kumar in a watchman’s room at the bungalow. Kumar was allegedly served stale food and threatened into paying for the alleged damages. Furthermore, it was discovered that Ms. Manorama Khedkar, Puja’s mother, attempted to obstruct the investigation by tampering with critical CCTV footage, which was deemed crucial evidence in the case.

The actions of the Khedkar family have drawn intense scrutiny, with allegations of obstruction of justice and kidnapping. Following the rescue of Kumar, Pune police registered a case against Ms. Manorama Khedkar for obstructing law enforcement officers, while the Navi Mumbai police have added additional charges related to extortion and wrongful confinement against the accused.

Legal Consequences and Ongoing Investigation

The case has led to a series of criminal charges against the Khedkar family. Mr. Salunkhe, the driver, was arrested by Navi Mumbai police and presented before the court. He has been remanded in police custody until September 23, while the investigation continues. Meanwhile, Mr. Dilip Khedkar, his wife Ms. Manorama Khedkar, and another individual involved in the tampering of evidence remain at large.

In addition to the kidnapping charges, the police have added more serious charges including wrongful confinement, extortion, and voluntarily causing harm. The case has highlighted a concerning pattern of misconduct surrounding the Khedkar family, especially in light of previous controversies surrounding Puja Khedkar.

Previous Controversies Surrounding Puja Khedkar

This recent legal trouble comes on the heels of another controversy involving Ms. Puja Khedkar. She has been accused of attempting to misrepresent facts in her 2022 UPSC civil services examination application, allegedly availing herself of reservation benefits by providing false information about her disability and OBC status. The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has since initiated action against her, including a criminal investigation.

Additionally, a viral video last year showed Ms. Manorama Khedkar threatening a farmer, further highlighting the family’s legal troubles. While Ms. Khedkar was arrested and later released on bail, the negative public perception surrounding the family continues to grow.

This road rage incident and subsequent kidnapping case have thrust Puja Khedkar and her family into the spotlight once again, raising concerns about the ethical conduct of public service aspirants and the integrity of individuals in positions of power. The investigation continues, with law enforcement agencies determined to bring the accused to justice. As the case unfolds, it is certain to have lasting implications for the Khedkar family and their future in the public eye.
