Moga: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann delivered a strong message at the Village Defence Committee (VDC) oath ceremony in Moga, asserting that their government is committed to a sustained crackdown on narcotics under the ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’ campaign.
The leaders criticized previous regimes—the Shiromani Akali Dal, BJP, and Congress—for allowing Punjab to become a hub for drug trafficking, while emphasizing that the AAP government is producing tangible results in the fight against addiction.
Firm Action Against Drug Traffickers
Kejriwal highlighted the government’s decisive measures, including the seizure of 2,000 kilograms of drugs, imprisonment of major traffickers, and demolition of their illegal mansions. He stressed that for the first time in Punjab’s history, the state government has taken strict action against drug peddlers rather than protecting them.
He warned citizens that returning previous regimes to power could reverse these gains and push Punjab back under the grip of narcotics.

Long-Term Prevention and Youth Development
Chief Minister Mann underlined that the campaign goes beyond enforcement. The government’s strategy includes building sports grounds in every village and creating employment opportunities to steer youth away from drugs. Mann said the initiative fulfills AAP’s commitment to eliminate the “chitta” menace from Punjab while restoring confidence and opportunity across the state.
Public Trust and Community Participation
Kejriwal acknowledged that public trust was initially low due to years of inaction by former governments. He said, “When we began this war against drugs, there was deep fear among the people. No one was ready to come forward to share information. They feared that their families would be threatened or intimidated.”
The campaign now relies on community engagement through the Village Defence Committees, empowering citizens to actively participate in reporting and preventing drug-related activities.
Government Officials Address the Ceremony
Punjab Chief Secretary K.K. Yadav and DGP Gaurav Yadav also addressed the gathering, emphasizing coordination between law enforcement and local communities to ensure the campaign’s success.
Impact of ‘Yudh Nashean Virudh’
AAP leaders asserted that the campaign has already produced measurable results, including:
- Large-scale drug seizures and arrests of traffickers
- Demolition of properties linked to illegal narcotics trade
- Strengthened community vigilance through VDCs
- Initiatives to prevent youth addiction via sports and employment
The leaders declared this phase as a critical step in Punjab’s governance, combining strict law enforcement with long-term social development to fight the drug menace.
