In a developing case, Purushottam Chavan, husband of IPS officer Rashmi Karandikar, faces allegations of defrauding a Surat-based businessman and others of Rs 7.42 crore. The Mumbai Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has secured a production warrant for Chavan and plans to arrest him from jail on Wednesday. This follows his previous arrest last month in a separate case involving Rs 24.78 crore.
Chavan is accused of misleading the businessman with promises of discounted government plots and assistance in securing contracts to supply T-shirts to the Maharashtra Police Academy, which were allegedly never fulfilled. His wife, IPS Karandikar, is implicated for reportedly receiving over Rs 2.5 crore from him, allegedly diverting these funds into share trading.
The EOW has initiated inquiries into Karandikar’s investments, seeking clarification from the Maharashtra DGP’s office on whether proper permissions were sought. Pending the investigation’s outcome, potential disciplinary actions against Karandikar are under consideration.
