Dehradun: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated the Road Safety and Green Earth Marathon in Dehradun, aiming to raise awareness about road safety and environmental protection. The 5-kilometer marathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from citizens of all age groups, highlighting the importance of responsible driving and environmental consciousness.
Marathon Promotes Road Safety Awareness
Before flagging off the marathon near the CM Camp Office, CM Dhami administered a pledge to youth, encouraging them to follow traffic rules and contribute to road safety awareness. The initiative comes in the backdrop of rising road accidents across Uttarakhand and India, which remain a major public safety concern.
The event aligns with the National Road Safety Month organized from 1–31 January 2026 at the central level to sensitize citizens about traffic rules and accident prevention measures.
Focus on Environment Protection
CM Dhami emphasized the link between global warming, climate change, and the need for collective action to protect the environment. He stated that environmental awareness and sustainable practices are not only the responsibility of the government but also of every citizen.
The marathon combined fitness, environmental responsibility, and public safety, encouraging participants to adopt eco-friendly habits while promoting road safety.
Addressing Road Accidents and Traffic Violations
The Uttarakhand Transport Department noted that overspeeding and violation of traffic rules are primary causes of road accidents. CM Dhami urged the public to avoid drunk driving, follow speed limits, and comply with traffic regulations to ensure safety on roads.
He stated, “Following traffic rules and protecting the environment is the duty of every citizen. The government continues to make consistent efforts in road safety and environmental protection.”
Citizen Engagement and Awareness
The marathon successfully engaged citizens, especially youth, in understanding their role in reducing accidents and fighting climate change. Such initiatives aim to create a culture of responsible driving and eco-conscious living across Uttarakhand.
