New Delhi: The Indian power sector is in mourning following the untimely demise of Mr. R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of THDC India Limited (THDCIL). Mr. Vishnoi passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the age of 58, leaving behind an indelible legacy of dedication, innovation, and commitment to nation-building through public sector enterprises.
A Distinguished Career Dedicated to India’s Power Sector
Mr. R. K. Vishnoi was born on March 30, 1967, and went on to become a towering figure in India’s energy landscape. An Honors Graduate in Civil Engineering from BITS Pilani, he joined THDCIL in 1989 as an engineer and devoted his entire career—spanning over 37 years—to the growth and development of the organization. Rising through the ranks, he eventually assumed the role of CMD on August 6, 2021.
During his tenure, Mr. Vishnoi was widely recognized for his visionary approach in transforming THDCIL into a diversified and highly efficient power company. His leadership was instrumental in innovating operational strategies and overseeing projects at various stages of development.

Key Contributions to Mega Power Projects
Mr. Vishnoi played a pivotal role in some of India’s landmark hydroelectric projects. His contributions spanned:
- Tehri Hydro Power Project – Ensuring effective planning and execution of one of India’s largest hydroelectric initiatives.
- Koteshwar Hydro Electric Project (HEP) – Overseeing project operations and optimization.
- Vishnugad-Pipalkoti Hydro Electric Project (VPHEP) – Leading development and innovative interventions in under-construction projects.
His technical expertise and deep understanding of hydroelectric infrastructure earned him recognition both nationally and internationally. He also represented India at the International Commission on Large Dams (ICOLD), contributing to the Technical Committee on Seismic Safety of Dams.
