Mr. Raj Kumar Chaudhary, the incumbent Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) of NHPC Limited, has been given the additional responsibility of CMD at SJVN Limited.
A highly experienced professional with over 35 years in the power sector and hydropower development, Mr. Chaudhary has extensive expertise in every phase of hydro-project development, from conception to commissioning. His contributions to hydropower projects in both India and Bhutan have been significant.
Mr. Chaudhary holds a degree in Civil Engineering from BIT Sindri and an Advanced Diploma in Management. He began his career at NHPC in 1989 as a Probationary Executive (Civil) for the Koel Karo HE Project in Jharkhand. Over the years, he advanced through various roles at NHPC, ultimately becoming Director (Technical) before being appointed CMD on August 7, 2024. He has also served as Director (Technical) for the Mangdechhu and Punatsangchhu-II HE Projects in Bhutan.
Mr. Chaudhary’s career includes overseeing the successful development of the Kalpong HE Project, which was completed 16 months ahead of schedule. This was a remarkable achievement, as the project was located on a remote island in the Andaman & Nicobar Islands. He also played a key role in the commissioning of the Teesta-V HE Project (510 MW) in Sikkim and the Mangdechhu HE Project (720 MW) in Bhutan. Furthermore, he contributed as an expert member in repairing the HRT of the 1020 MW Tala HE Project in Bhutan.
