Jaipur: In a significant move aimed at bolstering the state’s law enforcement system, the Rajasthan government has created a new post of Director General (DG) Law and Order in the police department. Senior IPS officer Sanjay Agarwal has been appointed to this pivotal position. The decision was officially announced through an order issued by Rajasthan Police DGP Rajiv Kumar Sharma.
The creation of this post comes at a time when the state is facing rising crime rates, increasing cyber threats, and challenges related to disaster management. Officials believe that the new structure will enhance coordination within the police force and improve overall efficiency.
DG Agarwal to Lead Three Major Wings
Under this new role, DG Sanjay Agarwal will work directly under the DGP and command three critical wings of the Rajasthan Police:
- Law and Order
- Armed Battalions
- State Disaster Response Force (SDRF)
Agarwal’s primary responsibility will be to ensure better coordination among these divisions, maximizing the utilization of manpower, resources, and technical facilities. By integrating these branches under a single command, the government aims to streamline operations and strengthen law and order across the state.
Additional Responsibility: Cyber Crime and Technical Services
In addition to his core duties, DG Agarwal has also been tasked with overseeing the Cyber Crime and Technical Services wing. This move comes in response to the increasing prevalence of cybercrimes in the digital era. Agarwal will be responsible for developing strategic measures to tackle cyber threats and will coordinate with relevant units to safeguard citizens from online crimes.
A Step Toward Integrated Policing
Experts note that previously, responsibilities related to law and order, disaster management, and other specialized wings were distributed across multiple levels, which sometimes caused coordination challenges. With the new integrated command under DG Agarwal, all these branches will now function cohesively. Analysts believe this reform will significantly enhance the efficiency of the Rajasthan Police and create a safer, more secure environment for the people of the state.
