Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh: The historic town of Ratanpur, a key religious and cultural center in Bilaspur, is set to host an innovative Demonstration Housing Project (DHP) with central government approval. This project, estimated at ₹10 crore, will be developed under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban 2.0, aiming to promote green and emerging construction technologies in India’s urban housing sector.
Project to Showcase Sustainable and Disaster-Resilient Housing
The Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Tokhan Sahu, stated that the project will be fully implemented with central assistance. Around 40 high-quality residential units will be constructed using disaster-resilient, durable, and environmentally friendly technologies.
The project is expected to make Chhattisgarh a hub for demonstrating innovative construction techniques, serving as a model for future urban housing developments.
Focus on Community Use and Religious Tourism
Unlike traditional ownership models, these units will not be allocated for individual ownership. Instead, they will serve community activities and accommodation for devotees visiting the Mata Mahamaya temple, one of Ratanpur’s key religious sites.
This approach will strengthen local infrastructure and provide a significant boost to religious tourism in the region, creating economic and cultural benefits for the local population.
“Living Laboratory” for Modern Construction
Minister Tokhan Sahu highlighted that the Ratanpur DHP will act as a “Living Laboratory”, enabling faster construction and cost efficiency while promoting new building technologies.
The project proposal has been sent to the Central Approval & Monitoring Committee for final approval, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared by BMTPC. Scheduled for completion within 12–15 months, this project aims to reduce carbon emissions and serve as a model for sustainable urban housing development.
