The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced on Friday that it has approved an increase in the charges for ATM cash withdrawals beyond the free monthly limit, effective May 1, 2025. The new charges will range from Rs 2 to Rs 23 per transaction.
Under the revised rules, customers will still be eligible for five free transactions (both financial and non-financial) per month at their own bank ATMs. Additionally, for transactions at other bank ATMs, customers will continue to receive three free transactions in metro centres and five free transactions in non-metro centres.
However, after the free transaction limit is exhausted, customers may now face a charge of up to Rs 23 per transaction, an increase from the current cap of Rs 21 per transaction.
The RBI also clarified that these updated charges would apply to transactions conducted at cash recycler machines, excluding cash deposit transactions.
The new fee structure aims to regulate ATM transaction costs while ensuring that customers still have access to a reasonable number of free withdrawals each month.
