New Delhi: The Central Government has extended the tenure of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar by one year, according to an order by the Department of Personnel and Training.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his reappointment for a period of one year, effective from May 3, 2025, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.
Sankar, a 1990 batch RBI officer, was first appointed as Deputy Governor on March 3, 2021, for a three-year term. His tenure was previously extended by a year in 2024. Over his long and distinguished career at the RBI, he has held several key positions and was serving as Executive Director before his elevation.
This extension ensures continuity in leadership at the central bank during a critical time for India’s economic and financial sector developments.
