The REC Foundation has signed a Memorandum of Association (MoA) with Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, Chennai, committing Rs. 6 crore to the ‘Eye Care for All’ initiative. This project aims to provide free cataract surgeries to 8,000 underprivileged beneficiaries in and around Chennai.

The MoA was formalized on February 17, 2025, between Ms. Thara Ramesh, Chief Program Manager (CPM), REC Regional Office Chennai, and Wg Cdr V Shankar (Retd), Trustee, Sankara Eye Hospital, in the presence of Mr. Narayanan Thirupathy, Director (Independent), REC Limited, along with officials from both organizations.
The initiative seeks to restore vision and enhance the quality of life for economically disadvantaged individuals by ensuring access to vital eye care services at no cost. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Narayanan Thirupathy emphasized REC Foundation’s commitment to empowering communities through impactful CSR initiatives, highlighting this partnership as a crucial step toward eliminating avoidable blindness and improving lives.
