New Delhi: Mr. Jitendra Srivastava, Chairman and Managing Director of REC Limited, delivered the opening remarks at the National Conference on the Use of AI/ML in the Power Distribution Sector, setting an optimistic and forward-looking tone for India’s next phase of technological transformation in the power landscape. In his address, Mr. Srivastava stated that India is on track to become a world leader in the power sector, calling it “one of the most exciting sectors to be in today.” He credited the Ministry of Power for driving a remarkable transformation and expressed gratitude for its continuous guidance and support.
He emphasized that the synergy between government patronage and private-sector innovation is fueling rapid advancements in the power industry. According to him, this partnership is creating an ecosystem ready to embrace cutting-edge technologies.

AI, ML, and Robotics to Revolutionise Power Delivery
Highlighting the disruptive potential of emerging technologies, he noted that Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), and robotics are powerful enablers that can reshape how electricity is produced, distributed, and consumed. These technologies, he said, will help utilities optimize operations, detect faults in real time, and enhance consumer satisfaction.
Ministry of Power Sets the Vision for AI-Driven Power Distribution
Earlier, Mr. Shashank Misra, Joint Secretary (Distribution), Ministry of Power, delivered a compelling welcome address. He described the conference as a landmark moment in introducing and mainstreaming new technologies in the power distribution segment.
Mr. Misra explained that under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), the use of large-scale data analytics and AI has become a reality, enabling DISCOMs to undertake deeper insights into consumption patterns, asset health, and predictive maintenance.
He also urged participants, especially distribution companies, to discuss effective ways of presenting dynamic, real-time data to consumers, aligning with the broader goal of improving transparency and service quality.
