REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has committed Rs. 8.44 crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to establish a 1MW multi-technology, ground-mounted, grid-connected solar photovoltaic power plant at Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu.
This project aims to meet the institute’s energy requirements while serving as a hub for advanced research in solar technologies, including innovative panels and inverters. The initiative will be implemented by GRI in technical collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL).
The Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) for the project was signed on January 9 by Thara Ramesh, REC Limited’s Chief Project Manager (REC Regional Office Chennai), and Dr. L. Rathakrishnan, representing GRI. The signing ceremony was attended by REC’s Independent Director, Narayanan Thirupathy.
This solar plant will not only make GRI self-sufficient in energy but also provide a platform for students and researchers to engage with cutting-edge renewable energy technologies. The initiative reflects REC’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, aligning with its CSR goals to support renewable energy advancements and educational development.
