New Delhi: REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, has announced the incorporation of three wholly owned subsidiary companies to support critical intra-state transmission infrastructure in Karnataka. The newly formed entities – Hampapura Power Transmission Limited, Sharavathi Power Transmission Limited, and Ryapte Power Transmission Limited – are established under REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of REC.
These subsidiaries aim to facilitate the development of essential transmission projects that are vital for reinforcing Karnataka’s power evacuation and distribution network, particularly as the state pushes for expanded renewable energy integration.
Strategic Inclusions to Support Key Transmission Projects
According to a regulatory filing by the company to stock exchanges on Wednesday, these incorporations are in response to a March 4, 2025, order from the Energy Department of the Government of Karnataka. The order allocated three critical intra-state transmission projects to RECPDCL, designating it as the Bid Process Coordinator (BPC) for the selection of Transmission Service Providers through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB).
The three key projects under these subsidiaries are:
Hampapura Power Transmission Limited – Incorporated on May 20, 2025, for the development of a 400 kV substation at Hampapura in Mandya district, along with the associated transmission lines.
Sharavathi Power Transmission Limited – Also incorporated on May 20, 2025, this entity will focus on executing the evacuation scheme for the proposed 2000 MW Pumped Storage Plant at Sharavathi.
Ryapte Power Transmission Limited – Incorporated on May 21, 2025, this company will oversee the implementation of the evacuation infrastructure for a 2000 MW solar park at Ryapte village in Tumkur district.
Focus on Infrastructure Development and Renewable Integration
Each of these entities has been set up with an authorized and paid-up capital of Rs 5,00,000 and is fully owned by RECPDCL. Although they have not commenced operations yet, they will eventually be transferred to the selected bidders, in accordance with the TBCB guidelines, along with all related assets and liabilities.
These strategic incorporations are aligned with REC Limited’s ongoing efforts to enhance both renewable and conventional power evacuation infrastructure across India. Karnataka, with its growing energy market and emphasis on renewable energy projects, stands to benefit significantly from this initiative. The new entities will play a pivotal role in the state’s future power distribution and evacuation systems, ensuring reliability and supporting sustainable energy growth.
RECPDCL’s Expanding Role
The establishment of these new subsidiaries also marks the expanding role of RECPDCL in coordinating competitive bidding and overseeing project implementation across the nation. As the Bid Process Coordinator for these high-value transmission projects, RECPDCL is set to play a critical role in enhancing India’s energy infrastructure and ensuring that the power sector evolves to meet future energy demands.
