Gurugram: REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has opened applications for the post of Executive Director (ED) on a deputation basis, specifically inviting applications from eligible IAS officers.
This opportunity comes amid the company’s expanding role in spearheading several key national energy initiatives, including the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and the Pradhanmantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSGMBY).
Deputation Opportunity for Senior Bureaucrats
REC is seeking applications from IAS officers of Level 12 or above (as per the 7th Central Pay Commission). The selected candidate will be appointed as Executive Director for an initial tenure of three years. Preference will be given to those with experience in the power sector, particularly in energy reforms, infrastructure development, or large-scale implementation roles.

REC’s Strategic Role in National Energy Projects
As the nodal agency for several of India’s flagship power reforms, REC plays a pivotal role in improving the performance of electricity distribution companies (Discoms) across the country. Its responsibilities include:
- Implementing the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS)
- Rolling out prepaid smart metering nationwide
- Driving past reforms like Saubhagya, DDUGJY, UDAY, and LPS Rules
- Acting as National Programme Implementation Agency (NPIA) for Rooftop Solar (RTS) under the PMSGMBY scheme
Given this mandate, the Executive Director will play a critical leadership role in the execution, coordination, and oversight of high-impact programmes aimed at modernizing India’s power infrastructure and enabling sustainable energy access.
