Trivandrum: REC Limited’s Regional Office in Trivandrum has transformed waste into art with an innovative initiative under the Swachhta Action Plan 2025–26. The project merges environmental sustainability with Kerala’s cultural heritage through creative upcycling.
Waste Transformed into Cultural Symbol
In a remarkable effort, 5,000 PET bottles were repurposed to create a large-scale artwork titled Palliyodam. Inspired by Kerala’s traditional snake boats, the installation represents unity, pride, and harmony.
Measuring 24 feet in length and 10 feet in height, the artwork now adorns the Government LP School, Sasthamangalam. It blends the message of Swachh Bharat with cultural symbolism, showcasing how discarded materials can be turned into meaningful creations.

Inspiring Green Awareness
The initiative highlights REC’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement. By combining eco-friendly practices with cultural artistry, REC aims to inspire environmental responsibility and strengthen awareness under the Swachhta Action Plan 2025–26.
The Palliyodam installation stands as a visual reminder of the potential of waste-to-art innovations to build a cleaner and greener Bharat.
