New Delhi: In a move to strengthen security during the Republic Day 2026 celebrations, Delhi Police will be using advanced ‘smart glasses’ equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) and facial recognition technology (FRS). The announcement was made by a senior police official on Wednesday.

This technology will help ground-level officers quickly identify criminals and suspicious individuals, enhancing the overall safety measures during the high-profile event.

Smart Glasses to Scan Faces in Real-Time

The AI-enabled glasses are integrated with a facial recognition system connected to the police database. A senior officer explained, “These smart glasses can scan faces in crowded areas and match them with police records in seconds. If there’s a match, the wearer gets an instant alert, allowing immediate verification and action without disturbing the public.

This innovation is expected to reduce reliance on traditional investigative methods and make it easier for police personnel to act swiftly in critical situations.

  • AI-based crowd management systems to detect unusual or suspicious behavior

Heightened Security Measures in Srinagar

Ahead of Republic Day, security arrangements in Srinagar have also been significantly tightened. Police officials confirmed that:

  • Checks have been intensified across the city
  • Personnel have been deployed at key strategic locations
  • Coordination with local authorities has been increased to prevent untoward incidents

Public Cooperation Requested

The Delhi Police has appealed to citizens for cooperation during security checks and verification processes. Residents are urged to:

  • Report suspicious activity to the nearest police station or police control room
  • Remain patient during crowd management and security procedures
