More than a year after a Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) order, retired IPS officer Narendra K Amin has been granted a notional promotion to the rank of Deputy Inspector General (DIG). The Home Department issued a notification on January 21, confirming the promotion.
A 2003-batch IPS officer, Amin was granted the Junior Administrative Grade (Level-12) from January 1, 2012, and later promoted to Selection Grade (Level-13) from January 1, 2016. The notification further stated, “Dr. NK Amin, the then Superintendent of Police, Mahisagar, is hereby promoted to Deputy Inspector General of Police (Level-13A) with effect from January 1, 2017, on a notional basis.”
Amin was under suspension for nearly eight years and was a key accused in the alleged Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. He was reinstated into the police force in 2015 but later resigned in 2017. His notional promotion does not impact his retirement benefits but formally recognizes his eligibility for the higher rank.
