New Delhi: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Captain Jagmohan (Retd.) as the new Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited (MDL), one of India’s leading defence public sector undertakings.
Captain Jagmohan, a retired officer of the Indian Navy, is currently serving as Director (Corporate Planning, Projects and Business Development) at Goa Shipyard Limited. With his new role at MDL, he will serve until his superannuation on September 30, 2029, or until further orders.

Captain Jagmohan served over 25 years in the Indian Navy, holding key roles in the Directorate of Naval Design and at the Naval Dockyard, Mumbai. Before joining Goa Shipyard, he was Chief General Manager (Design) at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE), Kolkata, where he led the design of complex warship projects for the Navy and Coast Guard.
A naval architect from Cochin University of Science and Technology, he also holds postgraduate and M.Tech degrees in Naval Construction and Ocean Engineering from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur, respectively.
The appointment, made on the recommendation of the Department of Defence Production, is expected to further strengthen MDL’s leadership as the shipyard continues to play a critical role in India’s naval modernization and indigenous shipbuilding initiatives.
MDL, headquartered in Mumbai, is a premier shipbuilding yard under the Ministry of Defence, known for constructing frontline warships and submarines for the Indian Navy. It also builds tankers, cargo bulk carriers, passenger ships and ferries. MDL is a public sector undertaking managed by the Ministry of Defence, with the Government of India holding an 84.83% stake. Its shipbuilding segment has built various vessels including stealth frigates, destroyers, corvettes, patrol boats, and cargo ships, while the submarine segment has developed conventional and stealth submarines. Both segments also handle repairs and refits.
