IAS officers Girija Shankar and Chiranjeevi Choudary were imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 by the bench of Justice Battu Devanand.
The fine was imposed after hearing a contempt petition filed by 36 village horticulture assistant post aspirants. The aspirants alleged that officials ignored the court’s directions.
The job notification regarding the posts were published in January 2020 but the rules for the selection process changed midway.
The candidates moved the high court, which supported the petitioners, against this.
However, the officials did not implement the High Court’s orders after which candidates filed another petition. They demanded contempt of court proceedings against then horticulture commissioner Chiranjeevi Choudary and current panchayat raj commissioner Girija Shankar.
Earlier the court had ordered a week’s jail term but then revised its order after a request was made by the officials. The court said that if the officials fail to pay the fine, they should be kept in jail for three days.
