Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) general secretary RS Praveen Kumar on Thursday made serious allegations, claiming that a woman IAS officer in Telangana is being harassed by a Cabinet Minister under the guise of “love”. Terming the incident utterly deplorable, Praveen Kumar questioned the silence of the police and intelligence machinery in the state.
Questions Raised Over Police Inaction
Addressing the media, Praveen Kumar asked,
“Where is the police machinery? What is the police intelligence department doing? Several Cabinet ministers are harassing women officers. Shouldn’t cases be registered against them?”
He further remarked that if women IAS officers are not spared, the condition of ordinary women in the state could only be worse, raising serious concerns about women’s safety under the current administration.

Allegations Against Revanth Reddy Government
Praveen Kumar accused Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy of failing to maintain law and order in Telangana. He alleged that the current regime has allowed a culture of revenge politics, where police officers are being used as tools rather than functioning as independent protectors of the law.
“If the police are truly independent and capable, they should arrest the Minister who is harassing the woman IAS officer,” he demanded.
Comparison With Previous BRS Government
Recalling the tenure of former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, Praveen Kumar said women’s safety had been strengthened through concrete measures. He highlighted the ‘She Teams’ initiative, under which 15,000 women police personnel were appointed to address crimes against women.
“Under the present government, the situation has deteriorated to such an extent that even women officers are facing harassment,” he alleged.
Warning to Police Officers
The BRS leader cautioned police officials against violating the law to please political leaders.
“Positions are not permanent. Respect the law. Do not become pawns in a revenge-driven regime,” he warned.
He urged officers not to harass fellow officials or their families under political pressure.
Reference to Prabhakar Rao Phone-Tapping Case
Praveen Kumar also referred to the phone-tapping case involving former IPS officer Prabhakar Rao. He claimed that despite the Supreme Court granting bail to the retired officer, the Revanth Reddy government allegedly spent ₹30 crore attempting to prevent his release.
He appealed to the police not to harass Prabhakar Rao’s family to appease individuals close to the Chief Minister’s Office.
Warning Drawn From Past Incidents
Citing incidents from Punjab, Praveen Kumar recalled cases where police officers, allegedly subjected to sustained harassment and humiliation, were driven to suicide. He warned that such a situation must never be allowed to arise in Telangana.
Call for Accountability
The BRS leader concluded by demanding strict legal action against those involved and reiterated that women officers must be protected, not victimised, under any circumstances.
