RVNL Q2FY26 Net Profit Falls 20% to Rs 231 Crore as Expenses Rise; Total Income Climbs to Rs 5,333 Crore

State-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Limited sees higher project costs impact profits in September quarter, while maintaining steady revenue growth amid ongoing rail infrastructure developments
Indian Masterminds Stories

New Delhi: State-owned Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) reported a 20 percent decline in its consolidated net profit for the September quarter (Q2FY26), reflecting the impact of higher operational expenses. The company posted a net profit of Rs 230.52 crore for the quarter, down from Rs 286.90 crore in the same period last year, according to an exchange filing.

Despite the dip in profit, RVNL’s total income rose to Rs 5,333.36 crore from Rs 5,136.07 crore during July-September FY25, indicating steady revenue growth amid rising costs.

Rising Expenses Weigh on Profitability

The company’s expenses surged to Rs 5,015 crore in Q2FY26 from Rs 4,731.52 crore in the corresponding period last year, which contributed to the decline in net earnings. Analysts note that the increase in expenses was largely driven by higher project execution costs and inflationary pressures in infrastructure development.

The company is tasked with building new rail lines, upgrading existing tracks, and supporting the expansion of India’s railway network to boost connectivity and efficiency.

Outlook for the Future

While the Q2FY26 results indicate a short-term dip in profitability, RVNL continues to maintain a strong order pipeline and strategic projects, which are expected to support revenue growth in the coming quarters. The company remains a key player in India’s railway modernization initiatives and is committed to delivering high-quality infrastructure projects.
