New Delhi: The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) held its 53rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) today at Chinmaya Mission, New Delhi, in a virtual format. The meeting was addressed by Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) Amarendu Prakash, who presented an overview of the company’s resilient performance amidst global headwinds and outlined a robust roadmap for future growth.
“Tested by Fire, Strengthened by Experience”
In his address, Mr. Prakash likened the strength and resilience of steel to that of the company itself.
“Steel is often called the backbone of modern civilization – strong, resilient, and enduring. Just like steel, our company too has been tested by fire, shaped by challenges, and strengthened by experience,” he said.
He emphasized SAIL’s central role in India’s development journey and its alignment with the national goal of Viksit Bharat 2047. He reaffirmed the organization’s contributions to critical sectors such as infrastructure, railways, defence, and energy, declaring:
“SAIL steel is at the heart of India’s growth story.”

Green Steel and Sustainable Growth
Highlighting SAIL’s commitment to sustainability and green transformation, the CMD detailed several initiatives already underway:
- Hydrogen-based steelmaking trials
- Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS)
- Biochar injection technologies
- Expansion of renewable energy use
“Climate change is a defining challenge for our industry. The world is at the cusp of a green transition, and SAIL is determined to be at the forefront of this change,” Mr. Prakash asserted.
Strategic Digital and HR Transformation
In its pursuit to become a future-ready organization, SAIL has launched two major transformation initiatives:
- PRAVARTANAM: A company-wide digital transformation program
- SAIL DARPAN: A human resource transformation initiative aimed at creating a resilient and self-sustaining organizational ecosystem across all plants and mines
These programs are designed to integrate technology, sustainability, digitization, and people-centric growth into every facet of SAIL’s operations.
A Confident Outlook for the Future
Concluding his speech, Mr. Amarendu Prakash expressed confidence in the company’s direction:
