New Delhi: Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has successfully commissioned a 5 megawatt (MW) floating solar power plant at its Bhilai Steel Plant, marking a significant milestone in the company’s renewable energy initiatives.
Enhancing Renewable Energy Portfolio
The floating solar facility is designed to strengthen SAIL’s clean energy portfolio, while reducing the carbon footprint of its steel manufacturing operations. By utilizing available water bodies within the plant premises, the installation optimizes land use and enhances energy efficiency.
This approach allows SAIL to generate renewable energy without compromising on valuable land resources, demonstrating innovation in industrial energy management.
Supporting National Clean Energy Mission
Company officials highlighted that the project aligns with India’s national clean energy mission and reflects SAIL’s long-term strategy of integrating renewable energy into core industrial operations. The initiative is expected to reduce reliance on conventional power sources and contribute to cost optimization over time.
Commitment to Sustainable Growth
With the commissioning of the floating solar plant, SAIL reinforces its commitment to –
- Sustainable growth and environmental stewardship
- Climate responsibility and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
- Adoption of global best practices in green manufacturing
This development is part of SAIL’s ongoing efforts to transition toward cleaner, more energy-efficient steel production, supporting India’s goals for a low-carbon industrial future.
