New Delhi: The government has approved the entrustment of additional charge to Mr. Sajid Farid Shapoo as Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) for four defence public sector undertakings (PSUs), including Gliders India Ltd, Troops Comfort Ltd, Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Ltd, and India Optel Ltd, for a period of six months.
Appointment Details
Mr. Shapoo, an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of the 1998 Madhya Pradesh cadre, is currently serving as CVO at Bharat Earth Movers Ltd (BEML), Bengaluru. He will hold the additional charge for six months or until a regular CVO is appointed, whichever comes first.
The approval follows the premature repatriation of Mr. Pankaj Gupta, ITS (1995 batch), who previously held the position.
Distinguished Career in National Security
Mr. Shapoo has a remarkable career in law enforcement and national security. He has served as Superintendent of Police in multiple districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhind, Satna, Shivpuri, and Dewas.
In 2009, he was among the pioneering officers to join the National Investigation Agency (NIA), where he led the Investigation Branch and later headed the Intelligence and Operations Division as Deputy Inspector General. During his tenure, he supervised high-profile terrorism investigations, earning recognition for his contributions to national security.
Role and Responsibilities
As CVO of the four defence PSUs, Mr. Shapoo will oversee vigilance, ensure transparency in operations, and strengthen internal compliance systems. His appointment is expected to enhance governance and accountability across these strategic defence enterprises.
