New Delhi: In a significant step to bolster judicial leadership across the country, the Supreme Court Collegium, headed by Chief Justice of India, recommended the appointment of five new Chief Justices to various High Courts during its meeting held today.
The recommendations aim to fill key vacancies and ensure continuity in judicial administration. The names proposed are as follows:
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva – Recommended as Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court. Originally from the Delhi High Court, he is currently serving in the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
Justice Vibhu Bakhru – Recommended as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. He is presently a judge of the Delhi High Court.
Justice Ashutosh Kumar – Recommended as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court. He currently serves in the Patna High Court.
Justice Vipul Manubhai Pancholi – Recommended as Chief Justice of Patna High Court. He hails from the Gujarat High Court and is currently serving in Patna.
Justice Tarlok Singh Chauhan – Recommended as Chief Justice of Jharkhand High Court. He is presently serving in the Himachal Pradesh High Court. His appointment is expected to fill the vacancy arising due to an impending transfer of the current Chief Justice.
These recommendations are subject to approval by the President of India, after which the appointed judges will assume charge as Chief Justices in their respective High Courts.
The move is part of the Collegium’s ongoing efforts to strengthen judicial leadership and ensure timely appointments across the higher judiciary.
