New Delhi: The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Patna High Court Chief Justice K Vinod Chandran as a judge of the Supreme Court. The decision was made during a meeting of the Collegium held on January 7, 2025.
Justice Chandran, who began his judicial career as a judge at the Kerala High Court on November 8, 2011, has been serving as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court since March 29, 2023. His career has been marked by significant contributions to the judiciary, and his appointment to the Supreme Court would add to the diversity and expertise of the apex court.
If the Centre approves the Collegium’s recommendation, the strength of the Supreme Court will rise to 33 judges, one short of its sanctioned strength of 34. This vacancy was created following the retirement of Justice CT Ravikumar on January 3, 2025.
Justice Chandran’s recommendation marks a key development for the judicial system, highlighting his distinguished career and anticipated contribution to the highest court of the land.
