Ladakh: In a remarkable demonstration of military cooperation and adventure, India and Argentina jointly achieved a milestone in high-altitude mountaineering. The Indo–Argentine Army Mountaineering Expedition successfully scaled Mt Kun (7,077 m) in Ladakh’s Suru Valley, highlighting teamwork, resilience, and shared endurance.

Flag-Off Ceremony Highlights Bilateral Military Ties

The expedition was officially flagged-in from New Delhi on 16 July 2025 by Mr Mariano Caucino, Ambassador of Argentina to India, alongside General Upendra Dwivedi, Chief of Army Staff (COAS). The ceremony underscored the growing spirit of bilateral defence collaboration and mutual trust between the two nations.

Rigorous Preparation for Extreme Terrain

Before embarking on the climb, the expedition team underwent weeks of acclimatisation and intensive training to prepare for harsh weather, steep gradients, and treacherous ice. These preparatory measures were critical in equipping the team to face Mt Kun’s formidable challenges.

Strengthening Strategic Military Friendship Through Adventure
