SECL Launches First All-Women Central Store Unit Under Government’s Special Campaign 5.0

Empowering Women in the Mining Sector, SECL and CIL Set New Benchmark with Tech-Driven, Women-Led Facility in Korba
Indian Masterminds Stories

KORBA: In a significant stride towards women-led development in the industrial sector, South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), has inaugurated its first fully women-operated Central Store Unit at the Central Workshop in Korba. This groundbreaking initiative is part of the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0, aligning with the national vision of “Nari Shakti se Rashtra Shakti”—empowering the nation through the strength of women.

A Milestone in Women-Led Development

The newly launched Central Store Unit represents a historic step forward for SECL and the coal industry at large. It follows SECL’s earlier achievement of setting up Coal India’s first all-women-operated dispensary in Bilaspur. Together, these developments highlight a strong and sustained commitment to enhancing women’s participation in core industrial operations.

Led by Women, Powered by Technology

The Central Store will oversee the supply and management of spare parts and inventory — all operated by a dedicated team of eight women officers and staff. The unit is headed by Ms. Sapna Ikka, Senior Manager (E&M), and a distinguished alumna of IIT (ISM), Dhanbad.

To ensure operational efficiency and transparency, the facility is equipped with a modern SAP-based digital inventory system. This technology-driven approach promotes not only streamlined workflows but also reinforces SECL’s push towards digital transformation and innovation.

Setting a Benchmark for Inclusion

This initiative is a bold statement in favor of gender diversity in sectors where female representation has traditionally been limited. By establishing such inclusive work environments, SECL is not only enabling equal opportunities but also inspiring other PSUs and industries to follow suit.
