The Union government on Wednesday appointed Praveen Sinha as the interim chief of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Sinha succeeded Rishi Kumar Shukla who retired on Wednesday after a two-year fixed term.
Praveen Sinha is a 1988-batch Gujarat cadre IPS currently working as an Additional Director of CBI.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by PM Narendra Modi gave its nod for Sinha’s appointment, an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) said.
According to the DoPT order, Sinha “will look after the duties of the director with immediate effect till the appointment of a new CBI chief or until further orders, whichever is earlier”.
Rishi Kumar Shukla, an IPS officer of 1983-batch (Madhya Pradesh Cadre) on Wednesday relinquished the charge of Director, Central Bureau of Investigation. He had taken over as Director, CBI on 04.02.2019.
