State-owned power major SJVN Ltd. has drawn an overwhelming industry response to its tender for 1,200 MW of solar power capacity paired with 600 MW/2,400 MWh of battery energy storage systems (BESS). In the fiercely contested auction, Reliance NU Energies, a subsidiary of Reliance Power, emerged as the top bidder for a 350 MW solar project along with 175 MW/700 MWh BESS.
The Navratna public sector enterprise received bids from 19 entities, 18 of whom qualified for the e-reverse auction, leading to oversubscription by more than four times—a clear indication of surging interest in firm, dispatchable renewable energy infrastructure.
The awarded tariff for the project was competitively discovered at ₹3.33 per kWh, fixed for 25 years, marking one of the most cost-effective solar-plus-storage offerings in the country. The Letter of Award (LoA) to Reliance NU Energies is expected shortly.
Once operational, the awarded project will contribute 600 MWp of solar photovoltaic capacity and 700 MWh of battery storage, providing state discoms with assured four-hour daily discharge capability—vital for peak power management and grid reliability.
The project will be implemented under the Build-Own-Operate (BOO) model, adhering to standard guidelines issued by the Ministry of Power.
