In a significant boost to India’s renewable energy ambitions, Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually laid the foundation stone for the 100 MW Nawa Solar Power Project at Bikaner, Rajasthan today. The ceremony marks a major milestone for SJVN and its green energy arm, SJVN Green Energy Limited (SGEL).
The event was graced by the Governor of Rajasthan Mr. Haribhau Kisanrao Bagde, Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mr. Bhajan Lal Sharma, Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & IT Mr. Ashwini Vaishnaw, and Union Minister of State for Law and Justice (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs Mr. Arjun Ram Meghwal, among other dignitaries.
From SJVN, the event was attended virtually by Chairman and Managing Director (Additional Charge) Mr. Bhupender Gupta, Director (Projects) Mr. Sushil Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel) Mr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, and Director (Finance) (Additional Charge) Mr. Rajendra Prasad Goyal. Senior officials from SJVN and SGEL were also present on the ground in Bikaner.
The 100 MW project is being developed at Nawa in Didwana Kuchaman district at an estimated cost of Rs. 415 crore. Implemented through SGEL, this project is expected to generate approximately 254.51 million units of electricity in its first year and around 5,850 million units over its 25-year lifespan. The power generated will be supplied to RUVITL at a competitive tariff of Rs. 2.62 per unit.
The project is anticipated to offset more than 2.86 lakh tonnes of carbon emissions over 25 years, significantly contributing to India’s target of achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2070. It is scheduled for commissioning by December 31, 2025.
Beyond clean energy generation, the project is also expected to generate both direct and indirect employment opportunities in the region. SJVN is actively involved in local community development through initiatives aimed at improving education, access to drinking water, sanitation, healthcare, and women’s empowerment.
SJVN, a Navratna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India, has so far commissioned thirteen power projects with a combined capacity of 2,786.5 MW and 123 km of transmission lines. The company continues to expand its footprint in India and Nepal, strengthening its role in the country’s clean energy transition.
