Bengaluru: In a major boost to indigenous defence logistics, BEML Limited has secured a ₹282 crore order from the Indian Army for advanced High Mobility Vehicles (HMVs). The contract, awarded under the Ministry of Defence, marks a significant stride in strengthening mission-ready military mobility through Make-in-India platforms.
Enhancing Tactical Capability with Customised HMVs
The order includes specialised HMVs featuring four-door cabins, tailored for transporting critical military assets such as battle tanks and engineering equipment. These vehicles will be crucial in bolstering the Indian Army’s operational logistics and ensuring seamless movement across diverse terrain conditions.
Built for rugged, high-demand environments, the vehicles are equipped with an all-terrain powerline and custom cabins that ensure high performance under extreme conditions.

BEML HMV PT 8×8: Built for Heavy-Duty Combat Logistics
At the heart of the order lies the BEML HMV PT 8×8—a robust, high-performance tactical logistics platform engineered for the most challenging military applications. Capable of towing trailers with a connecting weight of up to 100,000 kg, the vehicle is designed to provide strategic mobility across all terrains.
The HMV PT 8×8 comes equipped with:
- A powerful 300 kW (402 bhp), 2100 Nm V8 air-cooled engine
- A 24-speed manual transmission
- Independent suspension axles
- An integrated winch system for towing and self-recovery operations
These features ensure enhanced cross-country mobility and uninterrupted mission delivery under battlefield conditions.
