Supreme Court Launches New E-Filing Portal Ahead of CJI B.R. Gavai’s Retirement to Streamline Digital Court Services

New Delhi: In a landmark move to modernize judicial processes, the Supreme Court of India has launched a new version of its e-filing portal, allowing lawyers and litigants to access multiple services through a single digital platform. The announcement came just a day before Chief Justice of India (CJI) B.R. Gavai retires on November 23, 2025, marking his final working day in office.

Ceremonial Farewell for CJI Gavai

To honor his tenure, a ceremonial bench was organized on Friday, attended by the Attorney General, Solicitor General, senior lawyers, and other legal dignitaries. The gathering celebrated CJI Gavai’s contributions to the judiciary and extended best wishes for his future.

New E-Filing Portal: Features and Benefits

CJI Gavai, along with Justices P.B. Varale and K. Vinod Chandran, announced the launch of the new portal during a pilot session on Thursday morning. The updated system integrates multiple digital services into a single interface, allowing:

  • Hybrid options for e-filing, certified copy requests, and physical hearings
  • Single login access for multiple court services
  • Gradual implementation alongside the existing filing system to ensure smooth transition

According to CJI Gavai, the new platform is designed to simplify digital processes, improve accessibility, and enhance convenience for lawyers and litigants across the country.

Future Plans: AI Integration

CJI Gavai also highlighted the court’s efforts to gradually adopt artificial intelligence (AI) to further improve efficiency and accessibility in judicial procedures. The new e-filing system is seen as a first step toward a digitally empowered Supreme Court, offering a streamlined and user-friendly experience.
