Lucknow: Swedish defence manufacturer Promoteq has unveiled plans to establish a ₹500 crore (₹5 billion) unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturing plant in the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor — a major stride for India’s defence manufacturing growth. The investment marks Promoteq’s first factory in India and signifies deeper industrial cooperation between Sweden and India in the defence sector.
The project is expected to enhance local defence innovation, create jobs, and support India’s push towards self-reliance in defence technologies under the “Make in India” initiative.

The new facility will be located inside the Uttar Pradesh Defence Corridor, a flagship initiative launched to attract global defence firms with world-class infrastructure and incentives. The corridor spans multiple industrial nodes and offers benefits such as plug-and-play manufacturing zones, access to highly skilled labour, and proximity to major transport hubs like Jewar International Airport.
This defence hub has already attracted several major investments and is rapidly gaining a reputation as a leading manufacturing destination in India — not just for defence but for aerospace and advanced technology industries as well.
Impact of Promoteq UAV Plant In Uttar Pradesh
The Promoteq facility is expected to generate over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs in the region, with a strong focus on recruiting graduates from local engineering and technology institutions. Skilled workforce training will be conducted in partnership with Swedish experts, enabling Indian workers to gain specialised experience in avionics, unmanned system integration, and software engineering.
Industry analysts say this move will help broaden the defence industry talent pool in Uttar Pradesh, creating economic opportunities beyond traditional sectors.
Boosting Indo-Swedish Defence Collaboration
The investment agreement was signed during the World Economic Forum (WEF) 2026 event in Davos, where the Uttar Pradesh government delegation and Promoteq formalised a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for strategic cooperation in UAV manufacturing.
Officials noted that Sweden’s expertise in aerospace and defence complements India’s ambition to build a strong indigenous defence production base. Establishing Promoteq’s first manufacturing unit in Lucknow reinforces both countries’ commitment to shared technology partnerships and innovation growth.
