Mr. Jayaram is accused of abetting a gang that abducted the minor by allegedly providing his official vehicle for the crime, reportedly to separate a couple. The officer was detained by Tiruvallur district police as he exited the Madras High Court premises on Monday and was taken to the Thiruvalangadu police station for questioning. He was interrogated for nearly six hours, after which he was taken to the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Tiruthani. He is expected to be produced before a judicial magistrate court in Tiruthani.
On Tuesday, Mr. Jayaram moved the Supreme Court seeking a stay on the Madras High Court’s order directing his appearance before the investigating officer.
