Patna: Janshakti Janata Dal leader and former minister Mr Tej Pratap Yadav has lodged a formal police complaint against retired IPS officer Mr Amitabh Kumar Das, accusing him of spreading defamatory content online. The complaint was registered on Thursday at the Secretariat police station in Patna.

Mr Das was an IPS officer of the 1994 batch of the Bihar cadre. He was given premature retirement in August 2018.

Allegations of False and Offensive Claims

Mr Tej Pratap stated on social media that Mr Das circulated “offensive and fabricated” statements about his personal and family life through digital platforms. He described the claims as “absurd, false and baseless” and accused the former senior police officer of deliberately trying to damage his public reputation.

Pattern of Controversial Conduct

In his post, Mr Tej Pratap highlighted that Mr Das had been linked to previous controversies, including the Shabnam case, suggesting that the recent incident reflected a recurring pattern of provocative behavior. He called the remarks “unforgivable” and emphasized that he had formally requested appropriate action from authorities.

Police Action Initiated

Following the complaint, the Secretariat police station has officially recorded the grievance, initiating the process for investigation. Mr Tej Pratap expressed hope that timely action would be taken against Mr Das for the alleged defamation.

About Amitabh Kumar Das

Mr Das is a 1994-batch IPS officer of the Bihar cadre who was given premature retirement in August 2018. He challenged this decision at the Central Administrative Tribunal, citing that he had not completed 25 years of service or reached 50 years of age. After a decade-long legal battle against departmental proceedings, the Supreme Court ruled in his favor in 2016, and he was subsequently promoted to the Inspector General pay scale in 2017.

Mr Das is known for his principled stands, including exposing links between a Union Minister and the banned Ranvir Sena and returning his police medal in 2021 to protest the planned demolition of part of the Khuda Baksh Oriental Public Library in Patna. In December 2025, a police complaint was filed against him by politician Tej Pratap Yadav over remarks made in a YouTube interview.
