In a major boost to India’s telecom infrastructure, Tata Group’s telecom equipment manufacturer Tejas Networks has announced the successful completion of equipment supply to Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) for the rollout of one lakh 4G and 5G sites. The deployment is part of a Rs 7,492-crore contract awarded in August 2023 to a consortium led by Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), which includes Tejas Networks and C-DoT.
“This is one of the largest single-vendor Radio Access Network (RAN) deployments in the world, delivered in record time,” said Anand Athreya, CEO and MD of Tejas Networks, during the company’s latest earnings call. “I’m extremely proud of the team and the collaborative effort with TCS, C-DoT, and BSNL that made this possible.”
The rapid progress marks a significant milestone for BSNL, which is preparing to launch its 4G services in June 2025, nearly nine years after private telecom players entered the 4G space. Once the 4G network is stabilised, BSNL plans to upgrade to 5G services, enhancing its competitiveness in the market.
While Tejas Networks reported a consolidated loss of Rs 72 crore in the March 2025 quarter, it also posted a 44% year-on-year increase in revenue from operations, reaching Rs 1,907 crore. For the full financial year ended March 31, 2025, the company reported a multi-fold jump in consolidated profit to Rs 446.53 crore, alongside a threefold increase in revenue to Rs 8,923 crore, reflecting strong business momentum.
BSNL, a central public sector undertaking under the Department of Telecommunications, Ministry of Communications, is playing a key role in India’s digital transformation. With its headquarters in New Delhi, BSNL is focusing on accelerated 4G expansion, fiber-optic upgrades, and new digital offerings like National WiFi Roaming, BiTV for mobile users, and IFTV for FTTH customers.
Backed by continued government support, strategic cost reductions, and a firm commitment to digital innovation, BSNL aims to reinforce its market presence and contribute significantly to advancing India’s digital connectivity goals.
