Rishikesh: THDC India Limited, a leading Public Sector Undertaking in the power sector, commemorated its 38th Foundation Day with grand celebrations at its Corporate Office in Rishikesh and across its various projects and units nationwide. The occasion marked both a reflection on THDCIL’s remarkable journey since 1988 and a celebration of recent landmark achievements that reinforce its commitment to sustainable energy development and national progress.
Flag Hoisting and Lamp Lighting Mark Ceremonial Start
The day began with a flag hoisting ceremony led by R. K. Vishnoi, Chairman and Managing Director of THDCIL, followed by the traditional lamp lighting by Vishnoi alongside Directors Shallinder Singh (Personnel), Bhupender Gupta (Technical), and Sipan Kumar Garg (Finance) at Rasmanjari Hall, Rishikesh. Employees and their families participated enthusiastically, setting a celebratory tone for the event.

Landmark Commissioning of Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant Units
In his keynote address, Vishnoi highlighted the recent commissioning of the first two units (250 MW each) of the 1000 MW Variable Speed Pumped Storage Plant (PSP) at Tehri, Uttarakhand. This facility is India’s first variable speed turbine and the largest PSP of its kind among Central Public Sector Enterprises, marking a significant advancement towards enhancing grid flexibility and integrating renewable energy.
Expansion into Thermal Power with Khurja Super Thermal Project
Vishnoi also drew attention to the commissioning of Unit-1 (660 MW) of the 1320 MW Khurja Super Thermal Power Project in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. Recently dedicated to the nation by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, this project represents THDCIL’s strategic diversification into thermal power, a key step to meet India’s growing energy demands.
Commitment to Sustainability and Net Zero Goals
While celebrating these milestones, Vishnoi reaffirmed THDCIL’s vision to align with India’s Net Zero ambitions and energy security goals. He stressed that the company’s growth and transformation are driven by the collective spirit, dedication, and unity of its workforce and leadership.

Recognition of Leadership and Outstanding Employee Contributions
The Foundation Day also featured the felicitation of distinguished employees for excellence in performance, academics, and competitions. The prestigious Naman Award was conferred upon D. V. Singh, former Chairman and Managing Director, in recognition of his visionary leadership. Gaurav Awards were presented to several senior executives for their outstanding contributions to the organization.
