New Delhi: In a key administrative development within the Income Tax Department, the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has appointed three senior Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers to the apex grade of Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (PCCIT) for the panel year 2025. These appointments are effective from August 1, 2025.
Appointments Announced
According to an official order issued by the CBDT, the following officers have been promoted to the PCCIT grade:
- Adarsh Kumar Modi
- Rajeshwar Yadav
- Lalit Krishna Singh Dehiya
These appointments mark a significant step in the ongoing cadre restructuring and upgradation of senior tax officers in the department, aimed at strengthening leadership and policy execution within the Income Tax ecosystem.
About the PCCIT Role
The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax is the highest functional designation within the Income Tax Department. Officers at this level are entrusted with strategic responsibilities such as formulating tax administration policies, overseeing investigations, and ensuring compliance and enforcement across zones.
Strengthening Tax Administration
The elevation of these seasoned officers is expected to boost the department’s performance, especially in areas related to tax collection efficiency, litigation management, and taxpayer services. It also aligns with the CBDT’s broader goal of ensuring transparency, accountability, and ease of doing business in line with the Government of India’s reforms under Viksit Bharat@2047.
