Top Bureaucrats Shifted to Energy Sector as Govt Focuses on Implementing ₹28 Lakh Crore MoUs from Rising Rajasthan

High-Level Transfer Strategy Launched Post-Summit
Indian Masterminds Stories

Jaipur: Three top bureaucrats from Rajasthan’s industries department have been reassigned to the energy sector following the Rising Rajasthan summit. The transfers aim to expedite implementation of the summit’s Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs)—with a strong focus on the power sector, which accounts for ₹28 of the ₹35 lakh crore worth of agreements signed.

Ajitabh Sharma to Leverage Land-Allotment Expertise

Principal Secretary Ajitabh Sharma—the summit’s chief architect—has moved to the energy department. Previously as RIICO chairman, Sharma introduced critical land allocation reforms that proved instrumental during the summit. His deep knowledge of land policy is expected to be pivotal in operationalizing renewable energy projects.

Dual Role for Rohit Gupta to Fast-Track Approvals

Rohit Gupta, formerly Industries Commissioner, now holds both Chairman and Managing Director positions at the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation. This consolidation is expected to speed approval processes, reduce red tape, and enhance project momentum in renewable energy.

Saurabh Swami Joins as Joint Secretary to Streamline MoU Conversion

Saurabh Swami, who served as Deputy Commissioner at the Bureau of Investment Promotion, has been reassigned as Joint Secretary in the energy department. His experience in investment facilitation is intended to strengthen coordination and follow-through for the renewable energy MoUs.

Challenges Ahead: Debt Burden and Infrastructure Constraints

Despite the strategic reshuffle, converting ₹28 lakh crore worth of power-sector MoUs into actual investments remains a daunting task. The sector is currently weighed down by ₹1.5 lakh crore of debt, and success hinges not just on bureaucratic drive but also on sustained political will and infrastructure support—particularly land and grid capacity.

Trade insiders say the reassignments signal the state’s commitment to driving forward investments through seasoned administrators with domain knowledge.
