New Delhi — The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has invited applications for the key post of Director (Market Operation) at Grid Controller of India Limited (Grid-India). The position is open to experienced professionals from both the public and private sectors, with the deadline for submission set for August 13, 2025.

Post Fell Vacant After CMD Promotion

The vacancy arose after Samir Chandra Saxena, who was serving as Director (Market Operation) since July 2024, was elevated to the post of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Grid-India. The PESB recommended Saxena’s name for CMD on January 30, 2025, and the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) gave its approval on April 29, 2025. Saxena officially took charge as CMD on May 1, 2025, leaving the Director (Market Operation) post vacant.

A Crucial Role in India’s Power Market

The Director (Market Operation) is a pivotal role in Grid-India’s leadership structure, responsible for managing national electricity market operations, including real-time grid scheduling, power trading mechanisms, and renewable integration. The role is especially critical as India continues to modernize its energy systems and increase its renewable energy footprint.

Application Details

The PESB has advised interested and eligible candidates to apply through the official portal or via their respective administrative channels by August 13, 2025. The appointment will follow the standard selection process involving shortlisting, interviews, and final approval by the ACC.
