Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh: In a significant step towards sustainable energy and waste management, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) has signed a Tripartite Agreement with the Municipal Corporation of Bilaspur and the Chhattisgarh Biofuel Development Authority for the establishment of a Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant in Bilaspur.
The agreement was formalized with Mr Anil Kumar P, Executive Director I/c (Biofuels), signing on behalf of BPCL. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Mr Manoj Kumar Pingua, Additional Chief Secretary (Home & Prisons), Government of Chhattisgarh, and Mr Sanjay Agarwal, Collector of Bilaspur.
Second CBG Plant in Chhattisgarh under SATAT Initiative
This new facility marks BPCL’s second CBG plant in the state under the Sustainable Alternative Towards Affordable Transportation (SATAT) initiative. The plant is engineered to process 150 metric tonnes of municipal solid waste per day, converting it into clean, renewable compressed biogas.

Advancing India’s Green Energy Goals
The Bilaspur plant aligns with India’s broader ambitions of building a gas-based economy and achieving its Net Zero commitments. By transforming organic municipal waste into biogas, the project contributes meaningfully to key national missions such as:
