Lucknow: State-Wide Law and Order Revamp to Include Feedback from Citizens, Ground-Level Personnel
In a first-of-its-kind initiative, Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna has appointed 21 Indian Police Service (IPS) officers to lead reforms across 10 critical areas of policing aimed at enhancing law and order in the state. This structured move is part of a broader roadmap designed to modernize police functioning, strengthen community trust, and ensure accountability from the grassroots to the topmost ranks.
Each reform domain will be overseen by two officers – one from field operations and one from police headquarters – ensuring practical insights are balanced with policy-level planning.
One-Month Deadline for Review and Recommendations
The assigned officers have been given one month to evaluate their respective domains and submit a comprehensive report to the DGP. These reports will include actionable recommendations for improvement, and they will serve as the foundation for a long-term reform roadmap.
“This initiative is aimed at aligning officers with areas that match their interest and expertise,” said DGP Rajeev Krishna. “For the first time, we are including officers from constable rank to Additional Director General (ADG) in the reform process.”
Focus on Inclusivity and Victim Feedback
In a significant departure from traditional top-down planning, the DGP has mandated the inclusion of personnel at all levels – constables, inspectors, and gazetted officers – in the action plan formulation. Feedback will also be gathered directly from crime victims, women, and other concerned citizens to ensure the reforms are grounded in real-world issues.
The first round of presentations from officers is scheduled for Monday, marking the formal beginning of this ambitious reform effort.

Holistic Planning: Legal, Budgetary Changes Also on the Table

An Inclusive Model for Police Reform
This reform initiative reflects a move towards more participative and transparent policing. By encouraging officers to lead areas aligned with their interests and strengths and ensuring inclusivity in feedback and planning, the state police is laying the groundwork for sustainable and citizen-centric governance in law enforcement.
