Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet has approved four major link expressway projects covering approximately 322 km at a combined estimated cost of ₹17,542.06 crore. The projects aim to strengthen road connectivity across the state by linking existing expressways with important regional destinations.
The state government will bear the entire expenditure, while the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will execute the projects under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna announced the Cabinet’s decision after the meeting. He said the four projects are targeted for completion within three years.
Under the project terms, contractors will also be responsible for maintaining the expressways for five years after their completion.
Four Link Expressway Projects Approved by UP Cabinet
The four approved projects will cover approximately 322 km and connect different expressway corridors across Uttar Pradesh.
The projects include:
- Farrukhabad Link Expressway: Approximately 90.90 km, to be developed in two packages.
- Agra-Lucknow to Purvanchal Expressway Link: A 50.94-km expressway connecting the Agra-Lucknow Expressway with the Purvanchal Expressway.
- Jhansi Link Expressway: Approximately 106 km, to be developed in two packages.
- Jewar Link Expressway: Approximately 74 km, comprising two construction packages.
Together, these four projects will involve an estimated investment of ₹17,542.06 crore and add new connectivity links to the state’s existing expressway network.
Projects to Be Developed Under EPC Model
The Uttar Pradesh government will finance all four projects, while UPEIDA will oversee their development under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
Under this arrangement, the selected contractors will be responsible for executing the construction work according to the approved project specifications.
The government has set a three-year completion target for the projects. Additionally, contractors will have to maintain the completed expressways for five years, ensuring continued upkeep after construction.
Improved Connectivity to Bundelkhand and Jewar Airport
The proposed link expressways are expected to strengthen road connectivity between existing expressway corridors and important destinations across Uttar Pradesh.
The Jhansi Link Expressway is expected to improve connectivity to the Bundelkhand region, while the Jewar Link Expressway will strengthen access to the area surrounding Noida International Airport.
The Agra-Lucknow to Purvanchal Expressway link will provide a direct connection between two major expressway corridors, making inter-regional travel more convenient.
Similarly, the Farrukhabad Link Expressway will improve connectivity for the surrounding areas and strengthen the state’s road infrastructure.
UP Government Focuses on Expressway Infrastructure and Economic Growth
Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Kumar Khanna said improved transportation infrastructure would support economic development across Uttar Pradesh.
The four projects are intended to make travel between different regions more convenient, improve access to existing expressway networks and strengthen connectivity to key destinations.
With an investment of more than ₹17,500 crore, the projects represent another expansion of Uttar Pradesh’s expressway infrastructure.
Their successful implementation will depend on construction progress across the approved packages, adherence to the three-year completion target and the subsequent five-year maintenance obligations.
