Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Police has made a significant stride in digital policing with the UP Cop App, which now functions as a “digital police station” for citizens across the state. According to Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna, a 1991 batch IPS officer, the app has been downloaded more than 50 lakh times since its launch in 2019 and has facilitated the retrieval of over 2.1 crore FIR copies from home.
The app, along with the UP Police Citizen Portal, is emerging as a convenient alternative to physical police stations, reducing the need for repeated visits and significantly cutting down resolution times.
Smart Policing Initiative: Technology at the Forefront
Under the Yogi Adityanath government’s Smart Policing initiative, the integration of technology into policing has been a key focus. DGP Krishna emphasized that these digital platforms make policing people-centric, transparent, and accountable, providing faster justice and relief to citizens.
“Technology has been effectively integrated to serve the public better. The UPCOP app functions like a digital police station, making services easier and faster for citizens,” he said.

The UP Cop App offers 27 types of police services, including:

Enhanced User Experience with Real-Time Features

- Real-time notifications for tracking application status
- Bilingual support in Hindi and English
- SOS button and location tracking for emergencies
- Map feature to locate the nearest police station quickly
These features have enhanced citizen safety and made the app a trusted digital interface for policing services.
UP Police Sets an Example in Digital Governance
DGP Krishna highlighted that the figures reflect the success of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s vision for digital policing, transforming the way law enforcement interacts with the public. He called the initiative a visionary approach, emphasizing that technology is making policing faster, accountable, and citizen-friendly.
“The UP Police is setting a new benchmark in serving the public. Our goal is to ensure transparency and efficiency through smart policing,” Krishna added.
