Chief Minister Mr. Yogi Adityanath has announced the launch of 75 new forensic units for all districts of Uttar Pradesh. The announcement was made on August 18, 2025, at the inaugural function of a three-day International Summit in Lucknow on the theme “Dimensions of Cyber Warfare, Multilateral Legal Framework, Forensics and Strategic Countermeasures.”
Highlighting the state government’s efforts to strengthen law enforcement, Mr. Yogi Adityanath emphasized that forensic evidence is now mandatory in all crimes carrying a punishment of seven years or more, following the implementation of three new laws including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) from July 2024. To support this legal reform, the government has already provided one mobile forensic unit in every district. With the new announcement, 75 dedicated forensic units along with mobile forensic labs will be operational across all districts, ensuring timely and scientific evidence collection at crime scenes.
Advancing Justice Through Forensic Science
According to the Chief Minister, the establishment of new forensic units will significantly enhance the capacity of Uttar Pradesh Police in solving cases. These units will play a crucial role in evidence gathering, victim justice, and ensuring that criminals are swiftly punished. Mr. Yogi Adityanath stated that the reputation of the state police has grown so strong that even criminals hesitate upon hearing their name.
Expansion of Cyber Policing and Technology Adoption
The Chief Minister also highlighted the remarkable progress made in cyber policing. Prior to 2017, only one cyber police station existed in Gautam Buddha Nagar while another was under construction in Lucknow. Today, cyber police stations are functional in all 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, and cyber help desks have been established in 1,587 police stations across the state.
In addition, advanced facilities such as the Advanced DNA Diagnostic Center, AI, Drone and Robotics Lab, and the Atal Library were inaugurated. Smart tablets were also distributed to students as part of the state’s push toward modernizing education and research in forensic sciences.
A Boost for UPSIFS and State Development
Marking the third foundation day of the Uttar Pradesh State Forensic Science Institute (UPSIFS), the Chief Minister flagged off 75 mobile forensic vans for districts and commissionerates across the state. He expressed confidence that UPSIFS will emerge as a cornerstone for “Developed India–Developed Uttar Pradesh.”
Through these initiatives, Uttar Pradesh is positioning itself at the forefront of forensic science, cyber security, and advanced policing, blending governance reforms with technological innovation for stronger law enforcement and justice delivery.
