The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has started the registration process for the Combined Medical Services (CMS) Examination 2026. Eligible candidates who wish to apply can submit their applications online through the official portals upsc.gov.in or upsconline.nic.in. The last date to complete the registration is March 31, 2026.
According to the notification, the written examination for the CMS recruitment will take place on August 2, 2026. Through this recruitment drive, UPSC plans to fill 1,358 vacancies in various medical services under the central government.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants should be 32 years or younger to be eligible for the examination. However, certain categories are entitled to age relaxation under government rules. Candidates from Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories, along with ex-servicemen, can avail of up to five years of relaxation. Meanwhile, candidates belonging to the Other Backward Classes (OBC) category and defense services personnel are eligible for a three-year age relaxation.
Application Fee
The application fee for the CMS examination is Rs. 200. However, SC, ST, Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD), and female candidates are exempted from paying the fee.

Selection Process
The recruitment process will consist of a written examination with two objective-type papers, followed by a personality test/interview and document verification. The final merit list will be prepared based on the candidates’ performance in the written exam and the interview.
