Before the next Lok Sabha elections, 2.5 lakh people will be appointed in various departments of the central government. The appointment has been targeted in the first six months of the financial year 2023-24. 9.79 lakh posts are vacant in about 78 departments under the central government, at present. According to sources, the Ministry of Personnel is aiming to fill 25 percent (about 2.5 lakh) posts out of 979327 vacant posts. However, even after this appointment, 7.5 lakh posts will remain vacant in various departments.
Merging of departments:
Due to financial and some infrastructural reasons, there is difficulty in filling all the posts, so at present there is a proposal to fill 25 percent of the posts. Sources say that in the coming time, a plan to merge some departments with each other can also be adopted. The purpose behind this is that there can be equal distribution of work among the employees and officers.
2300 posts of IAS-IPS vacant in the country: More than 2300 posts of IAS and IPS are vacant in the country. There is not a single state where there are no vacancies in the sanctioned posts for both of them. A total of 1472 posts of IAS and 864 posts of IPS are vacant. According to the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the total sanctioned strength of IAS is 6789, while the sanctioned strength of IPS is 4984.
According to sources in the Ministry say that due to the lack of these high officials, there is a problem in the operation of administrative and law and order in various states. Administrative work gets delayed due to filling of vacant posts. One or the other department remains like this, where work is not done. In case of officers being on leave or sick, the number of pending files increases considerably. Many a times, due to lack of timely decision, many schemes are left hanging.
