In a setback to UPSC aspirants, the Supreme Court on Wednesday rejected the plea to give an extra chance to UPSC aspirants who exhausted their last attempt in October 2020 due to the Covid-led pandemic. The candidates had sought an extra chance and relaxation on the age limit.
It is to be recalled that the Central government had agreed to give another chance to those whose last attempt was in 2020 but one-time relaxation on the age limit was denied.
Due to the Covid-led situation, the candidates plead for one extra chance and wanted age-barred candidates to be given another chance.
According to the rules, general candidates can appear six times till the age of 32 years. The OBC candidates can appear nine times till 35 years while SC/ST candidates can appear unlimited attempts till they attain 37 years.
As per the reports, over 2,000 candidates who appeared last year were age barred and will stand benefited if an extra chance was provided to appear this year.
